HOW-TO

Mastering the Art of Pattern Play

When you style your space using our designer-curated Color Collections, bringing patterns into your home gets a lot easier. Here’s a few simple tricks to help you tap into this interior design trend and paint your very own wall pattern.

Pick Your Palette

Start by choosing a designer-curated Color Collection that matches your style. If you need help finding the perfect palette for you, check out our online color quiz.

Choose Your Wall Colors

Once you’ve found the collection that inspires you, pick two colors for your wall— one darker main color and one lighter hue that contrasts with the darker one.

Start With the Base Color

Painting time! Take your darker base color and give your wall a fresh coat of paint. Wait until the paint has dried completely before moving onto the next step.

Map Out the Pattern With Tape

Use painter’s tape to lay out the pattern on your wall with crisp lines that are evenly spaced out. Don’t be afraid to pull out a pencil and tape measure to ensure consistent spacing.

Paint Your Wall Pattern

Once your pattern is mapped out on your wall with tape, apply one more coat of your base color to ensure crisp edges. Once dry, paint your second lighter color inside the areas you’ve taped off.

…And Ta-Da!

Now that your patterned wall is complete, you’re ready to start styling. Check out this blog post for tips and tricks to bring the rest of your room to life.
